  • The following tip applies only to vqME and not vqNow (our enterprise platform)
This tip contains program configuration detail for Eudora. Another tip shows how to configure Outlook Express or use this wizard for any popular email program. These settings ensure that your mail is protected from spam and viruses - and that mail sent to other protected users is accepted.

Change These Settings in Eudora

At the bottom of your mailbox list on the left of your screen there are 5 tabs. Click the tab Personalities which is typically to the right. A list of your Edora personalities appears in the frame above the tabs. If you have only one address, you may have just the one called "Dominant" .

For each Eudora personality, right-click the personality and then left-click properties. Then follow these steps:

a) On the Generic tab, type these settings:
  • Login Name: Your full VQME username which includes "@vqme.com"
  • SMTP Server: www.vqme.com
  • Check the box Authentication allowed
  • If you see the option Use Submission port (587), check it also
  • Secure Sockets when sending: Never
b) On the Incoming Mail tab, configure these settings:
  • Configuration: POP
  • Server: www.vqme.com
  • Authentication Style: Passwords
  • Secure Sockets when receiving: Never
c) If your version of Eudora does not have the option Use Submission port (587) then you must edit a text file to change your outgoing-SMTP port. [directions]. Be sure to close Eudora before making these changes.

Configure these settings for any other email personalities that access a Vanquish protected email address. If you are configuring vqME on a 2nd or 3rd PC, be sure to check the option "Leave Mail on Server" (or UNcheck the option "Delete Mail on Server). More details here.

That's it! Send yourself a message to each protected address and check the mail. You should see a grey and red Control Stripe at the top of the message.

Troubleshooting

If you can retrieve mail, but sending gives an error message, search your disk for one or more files named "DEURORA.INI". They are created by Eudora on PCs with multiple user log-ins. Your personality settings may be located in one of these files instead of Eudora.ini. Search for EUDORA.INI or DEUDORA.INI file that contains the text "www.vqme.com".

If you can retrieve mail, but sending keeps asking for a password, see this tip.

Some users have reported that mail sent to others shows a long "From" address at vqme.com instead of the address that they have always used. To solve this, go back to step (a) and make sure that the return address shows the desired "protected" address. This must be one of your existing addresses as registered on your vqME.com page (Click configure » profiles & protected addresses). This is typically the same FROM address with which you have always sent mail.
